Bear Basin Adventures Camp Rides

Imagine your own private guest ranch tucked away in the middle of Wyoming’s beautiful Absaroka Mountains, that’s what we are offering at our Wilderness Camp Rides.

One and a half hour drive from Jackson Hole and right in the middle of the greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, this camp is in some of this countries most beautiful and thriving wild lands. With an elevation of 8,500 feet, we are in the heart of the mountains and far away from it all.

Owned by the Naylon's and operated by Sarah and Heath Woltman, Bear Basin Wilderness Camp consists of well furnished wall tents with wood stoves, carpeted floors, chairs and two cots, per tent making for very comfortable camping. A dining tent and a full service cook tent help to provide food that will impress you as much as the scenery that will awe you. A capped and piped spring flows right through camp offering great tasting drinking water right outside our dining tent. Our hot shower is that extra luxury that will make all the difference. The camp is located on the edge of the Washakie Wilderness so we can supply the camp with a pickup allowing us no restrictions on what we provide or what you can take.

We will spend our time riding through open meadows filled with purple Lupine, scarlet Indian Paintbrush and yellow Golden Eye. Get down from your horse for lunch on the trail and discover delicate Forget-Me-Nots, Harebells and many more flowers that will keep even the most casual botanist interested. Aspen groves scattered in among Douglas Fir and Lodge Pole Pine forests provide forage for moose and mule deer. Look for herds of elk with new-born calves basking in the sun on the wide open mountain tops while Rocky Mountain sheep dance among the rocky crags. # Listen for and keep your eyes open for coyotes and wolves that move in shadows. Anyone who has seen a Grizzly Bear feeding on gooseberries or White Bark Pine nuts knows how spectacular this can be. An afternoon hike along well marked trails can be a good break for anyone who would like a break from riding. Bear Creek is a stones throw from camp and gives the opportunity for fisherman to wet a line and catch a native Cutthroat for dinner. The creek is small enough that any first timer who would like to try fly-fishing would have a chance to hook a fish.

Small groups of people make for an intimate vacation. Reconnect with your family or enjoy the wilderness with your friends or ours.

Come and enjoy riding our well trained mountain horses. They are safe and well cared for partners. Together you and your horse will climb mountain peaks and valley floors. If you don’t consider yourself to be a rider, no worries, we will instruct you and give you a horse that will help you to relax and enjoy your vacation. We have been working putting people and horses together for years and take pride in providing a safe experience for even the most timid riders. If you are an experienced rider you won’t feel stifled by a boring “nose to tail” ride.
