Base Camp Rides

Thanks for reaching out. We transferred our permits this year and will no longer be operating summer or hunting trips. It has been an amazing 16 years and we value each and every one of you that helped us achieve this dream. What an adventure!

Bear Basin Adventures offers summer horse riding trips in Dubois, Wyoming, just an hour and a half from Jackson Hole and Yellowstone National Park. Our trips run late June to early September.

Imagine your own private base camp with an elevation of 8, 500 feet set on Bear Creek, tucked away in the middle of the beautiful Absaroka Mountains, far away from it all.

Our camp consists of well furnished wall tents with wood stoves, carpeted floors, chairs and two cots per tent making for very comfortable camping. A capped and piped spring flows right through camp offering great tasting drinking water and our hot camp shower is that extra luxury that will make all the difference. Pack horses are not necessary on this ride as we have a fully set up dining tent and kitchen with all the necessary equipment and vehicle access close by to bring in your gear.

This itinerary gives you the chance to ride horses over open meadows filled with purple Lupine and scarlet Indian Paintbrush, through Lodge Pole Pine covered mountains, along red rock cliffs and through stoney river beds. Together you and your well trained horse will climb mountain peaks and valley floors. If you don’t consider yourself to be a rider, no worries, we will instruct you and give you a horse that will help you to relax and enjoy your vacation.

The area has some wonderful trout fishing opportunities, fantastic hiking trails and peace and tranquility for those who would like to soak it up with a good book in the hammock.

Trips are a minimum of four days with four guests but we suggest at least five days so as to experience all these mountains have to offer. We often put small groups together so do not worry if you are travelling solo or just as a group of two.

We also have some special itineraries available in our base camp.

Yoga and Meditation Ladies Getaway

This trip welcomes all self-identified women who crave a perfect combination of relaxation and adventure.

Along with the normal offerings of our base camp such as hiking, horse riding and fishing, this trip offers daily yoga and meditation practices led by a certified instructor and yoga-based therapist, Jaime Bedard.

You will enjoy delicious three delicious meals per day prepared by our camp chef.  Each morning begins with the option of enlivening movement and meditation. Options for the day’s activities depend on your desire and include trail rides through dramatic mountainsides of towering pine trees, lush green meadows, craggy valleys, and clean creeks, resting with (or without!) a book, hikes, fishing opportunities, and swimming in mountain streams. You will experience the peace and tranquillity that is the Wyoming Mountains and comfortable accommodations at our well-established base camp.

This five-day trip presents a perfect place to recharge, reconnect with yourself and other amazing women, and enjoy the harmonic rhythm of nature.

$2,500 per person plus Wyoming State tax on food and lodging, for the Ladies Yoga Trip. All levels of experience in yoga/meditation and horse riding are welcome.

I can’t thank you enough for an absolutely fabulous trip. The camping sites were outstanding, the weather remarkable, the food first-rate, and the horses excellent. The fishing was among the best I have had in many decades of packing/hiking around the Greater Yellowstone eco-system. — Peter Sr, NY
