Fishing Trips

RLFishWhether it is fly fishing, spin casting, a week-long trip, or just a day long excursion, we have a trip for you.

The mountains of Wyoming offer a fishing trip for everyone. The high country lakes of the Wind River Mountains give you the opportunity for spectacular dry fishing or spin casting for a variety of trout. Come fish for Brookies, native Cutthroat, Rainbows, or Browns. We can hike to surrounding lakes or use our horses. We tend to the cooking and camp chores so you can spend your time doing what you love most- fishing! For an additional cost, you can hire a professional guide or bring your own familiar equipment and guide yourself while we tend to camp.

Here are some fishing itineraries. We have other options so please don’t hesitate to contact us with your ideas or questions.

Superb Fly Fishing at Simpson Lake

SBB_0962
Join Heath for some fantastic fishing in the beautiful Simpson Lake area in the northern Wind River Range. There will be the opportunity to fish the lake itself and other surrounding fisheries.
On route, there is a wide diversity of wildflowers and wildlife including moose, elk, mule deer, and bighorn sheep. This is the Fitzpatrick Wilderness, now considered one of the most spectacular wilderness areas in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem.

We will take day rides or hikes to nearby lakes; Lost Lake, Pinto Lake, Rim Lake, Sandra Lake, Moon Lake, and fish Simpson Lake by camp in the mornings and evenings. The fishing will keep you busy and the scenery awestruck. Come enjoy these wonderful wildlands and water with us. We will be available to help out with the fishing, we are fishermen but not guides. If you are interested in having a professional guide join us, let us know and we can connect you to some great guides.

Downs Fork/Dinwoody Trip

This fishing trip requires a minimum of seven days as we travel along the famous Glacier Trail deep into the Dinwoody area of the Winds. We spend some time in Burro Flats fishing where we can explore Double Lakes, Upper Phillips, and a beautiful hike to Golden Lake along the south side of Goat Flat. Anglers will also enjoy the brookies in Tommy Lake which is a secluded lake a moderate hike from camp skirting along Shangri La meadow.

The next few days will be spent fishing Dinwoody and Downs Fork by walking out from camp both up and downstream with wet shoes or waders. The camp site is lush green and picturesque with tall grasses, steep rocky ridges, and rugged natural landscapes, only seen in the Wyoming Wind River Mountains, one of the last frontiers of America.

This trip is challenging and unique with hiking and riding to access the best lakes and streams on offer.

On all full-service fishing pack trips, Bear Basin Adventures will provide all the meals, horses, camping supplies, and equipment except your sleeping bag, Thermarest, personal gear, and fishing gear (unless otherwise specified). You will be responsible for your own Wyoming fishing license and conservation stamp. A more detailed packing list will be provided upon booking. We’ll have some great gourmet campfires but can gladly accommodate most dietary needs if given enough notice.

The cost of this trip cost $400 per person per day, plus Wyoming State tax on lodging and meals, all-inclusive. A 10% service charge will be added for gratuity for our hard-working staff. A customary amount is 15-20% so we encourage guests to add to this.

If available, we can do custom trips to suit your needs or incorporate fishing into another pack trip.

Nearly 3 months ago you both offered me the gift of exploration into the Winds. It was a life-changing adventure, to be sure. Great Fishing! Thank you for being such gracious guides- so kind, professional, and personable! — Jaime, NY
