The trip was fantastic. It was a real adventures and a great new experience for all of us. As an outfitter, you were first class. While your professionalism and client focus is top notch, what really made the experience so wonderful is that you were all just really pleasant to be with. We felt like we were being hosted by good friends the whole trip. The company you keep on a trip like this can make or break the experience, and I am happy to say that the company we had on this excursion was great.

A tremendous adventure that exceeded all expectations. Views, meals, fishing, horseback riding, photo ops, fire-side stories made for a true western experience. Thank you.

A pack trip with Bear Basin Adventures is a brilliant way to ride and explore the wilderness of Shoshone National Forest. I’ve just come back from a great trip, which was a highlight of my holiday, and lots of fun, well led by Heath. The riding is fantastic, first through forests alongside a deep river valley, then climbing high into the mountains. This is proper wilderness camping, with a fire for cooking and an icy fresh creek for washing. Tasty meals are prepared by the cook on the open fire. Tents are roomy and comfortable, and easy to assemble.

I am a beginner rider, but Heath is an excellent horseman and guide, so I never felt nervous, even when riding across impossibly small mountain passes and up and down steep ravines. On the way to camps, you ride alongside packhorses which carry the camping and kitchen equipment, as well as your own personal gear. This leaves you free to focus on riding one of the lovely horses. Once at the camp, there are the opportunities for day rides without the packhorses, going high onto the snow-capped mountains, and some exhilarating ascents and descents.

Nearly 3 months ago you both offered me the gift of exploration into the Winds. It was a life changing adventure, to be sure. Thank you for being such gracious guides- so kind, professional and personable!

Heath, you took such good care of me it was embarrassing. But I loved it too. Good horses, wonderful accommodations, good food (and I didn’t have to cook), fabulous scenery, and a new good friend!

Without doubt, the highlight of our family’s recent 3-week holiday in the Western USA was the 4 days spent with Heath at Bear Basin. As inexperienced riders, we were matched up with sure-footed and patient horses which allowed us to improve our skills, whilst travelling through breathtaking and, at times, demanding terrain. By the end, we were all posting and loping confidently and really felt at ease on horseback. Meanwhile, the camp at Bear Basin got everything right – simple, comfortable and hospitable, with good food and the best view from any campfire anywhere. There is also great fishing a short walk away, allowing even novice fly fishermen like me to catch fish. Leading and setting the tone for all of this is the courteous, calm and supremely competent figure of Heath, as good a guide as anyone could hope for. The experience of living and riding for a few days in such a pristine and beautiful place is one that will live with us for a long time. We will return.

We have learned a great deal about the wildlife, the geography, the history and the lifestyle from this gentleman Heath, who is exactly that. I know Heath to be forthright, exact, honest, fair, level-headed, punctual, flexible, intelligent and considerate as well as totally dependable. Wonderful riding trip.

What else can I say? The whole thing was wonderful!! From the get go everything was organized; the horses were obviously well trained and cared for; the equipment was top notch; and Heath and Michael were professional but relaxed and fun. It was exactly the vacation I wanted. No phones, peace, quiet, beautiful scenery, fabulous food, new friends and lots of laughing. We will be talking of our “Wyoming Adventure” for a long time. Thank You.

Heath could not have been a better guide… friendly, skillful, careful, and very patient with this slow learning Yankee “city slicker”. Thanks for the opportunity to help me create one of the best memories of my life.

I am sure you heard that we had an absolutely great trip. Heath, Paul and Michael could not have been more attentive to our every need. The food was outstanding. The accommodations incredibly comfortable and the trail rides we did out of camp were unbelievable.

WOW!!! What a hunt. I know we hit the rut perfect this year and can’t expect hunting like that every time.   Your camp was the best I have been in and your men are top notch. Heath’s hunting style is the best I have seen, and his knowledge of the area is great. I hope the both of you are proud of the company you have. I hoped you enjoyed our company as much as we enjoyed yours.

Washakie Wilderness pack trip (81)

I have hunted with a number of guides and guide services. Seldom have I hunted with anyone more attuned to the environment, more sensitive to the limitations/capabilities of the hunter, and at the same time more productive in terms of putting the hunter in position to make a harvest/no harvest decision.

Heath’s camp has always been clean and well cared for; riding stock matched nicely with the skills of the hunter; and the food always fresh and well prepared. As long as I can hunt elk, I’ll be hunting with Bear Basin Adventures.
